Section Replacement Techniques
This section details how to modify specific parts of a song using Suno AI's editing features and other techniques. These methods allow you to replace sections, change lyrics, or reuse song elements to create variations.
Using the "Replace Section" Feature
The Replace Section
feature, available to Pro and Premier subscribers, allows you to replace a portion of your song. This is different from the Crop
feature, which only cuts off the beginning or end of a song. With Replace Section
, you can add, remove, or modify middle sections, including changing lyrics.
To use this feature:
- Navigate to the Create or Library view.
- Click the triple-dot More Actions menu and select Edit.
- Choose Replace Section.
- Click and drag to highlight the section you want to replace. The original lyrics will appear on the right and in the Lyrics box on the left.
- Modify the lyrics in the Lyrics box.
- Click Recreate Section (where the Create button is usually located).
- Confirm your changes in the menu that appears.
After confirming, Suno will generate two new versions of the song. Listen to both and select the one you prefer. The selected version will be incorporated into a new full song. The original section and the new full song will be tagged as Section and Full Song, respectively, for easy identification.
Lyric Infilling Techniques
Lyric infilling allows you to change specific lyrics while maintaining the rest of the song's structure. Here are some methods:
- Using the "Extend" Feature: After generating your song, use the
Extend
feature to add new lyrics. You may need to use external software to trim unwanted parts of the original song. - Separation and Regeneration: Separate the song into individual stems, mute the vocal stem you wish to change, and regenerate that portion. Tools like Moises and Splice can assist with this process.
- Utilizing External Software: Use external software to completely remove or replace the singer, allowing you to add new vocals without the original lyrics.
Reusing Song Seeds
To reuse a song seed for generating new songs with similar instrumental and vocal characteristics but varied lyrics and melodies, start the new song generation from a specific timestamp of the original song. This approach can help maintain certain elements like voice and instrumental setup while allowing for new musical variations.
- Using a Fixed Timestamp: Start a song from a particular moment (e.g., 2 seconds into the track) to ensure the continuation retains the original voice and band setup. This method can maintain the song’s general style and tempo.
- Adding Lyrics to Instrumentals: Convert an instrumental piece into a full song by starting the generation process after an introductory segment (e.g., 10-20 seconds) and adding lyrics. This can transform an instrumental into a complete song while preserving the original tune’s essence.
- Creating Variants from a Single Seed: Generate multiple song variants from a single successful intro or theme to explore different musical directions or to develop a cohesive album. This method focuses on consistent sound while varying other song elements.
