Mastering Repair Tools

Suno offers several tools and techniques to address mastering issues, enhancing the overall quality of your AI-generated music. These tools range from built-in features to external software solutions, each catering to different aspects of audio refinement.

Built-in Remaster Feature

Suno's built-in Remaster tool, introduced with the v4 model, allows users to improve the sound quality of their existing songs. This tool is accessible via the More Actions menu (represented by a triple-dot icon) when viewing a song in the Create menu or the Library. Selecting Remaster generates two distinct versions of the track, each with potentially improved audio characteristics.

The Remaster tool is designed to work with all songs created within Suno, including those made with older models such as v3.5. Users can even apply Remaster to previously remastered tracks, further refining the mix. It's recommended to provide feedback on the results by using the thumbs up or thumbs down to help refine future outputs.

Manual Mastering with External Tools

While the Remaster tool offers a quick solution, manual mastering with external tools provides more precise control over the final sound. This approach is particularly beneficial when dealing with issues such as uneven volume levels or insufficient loudness, often encountered in AI-generated music.

Free tools like FL Studio (free version) can be used to normalize volume levels, ensuring consistency throughout the track. This can be achieved by right-clicking the waveform, selecting Edit in audio editor, and using the Normalize function on selected segments.

Additionally, FL Studio's mixer/master window allows for further audio adjustments using plugins. Some useful plugins for mastering include:

  • Soundgoodizer: Enhances the overall sound.
  • Fruity Stereo Shaper: Adds stereo effects.
  • Fruity Parametric EQ 2: Cuts unwanted low and high frequencies.

Users should monitor the waveform with Wave Candy to ensure that no peaks exceed -0.3 dB, preventing clipping and distortion. The final step involves using a limiter for safety.

Utilizing the Cover Feature as an Upscaler

Suno's Cover feature, often perceived as a simple duplication tool, can be used as an upscaler to polish and unify tracks. This is particularly useful when a song has been tweaked with extensions and has lost its cohesiveness. The cover feature can smooth out and unify the track by using the same genre tags, making it sound more polished.

While Suno doesn’t currently offer the ability to target specific sections for upscaling, users can create multiple covers of a track, each time potentially improving the overall quality. It is recommended to view these covers as polished versions rather than simple duplicates.

Advanced Editing Considerations

For minor edits, users may find that Suno's built-in tools are not precise enough. In such cases, external tools like Udio can be used for remixing and polishing. However, the performance of these tools may vary across different genres.

When dealing with vocal changes that Suno struggles to implement, external editors can be used to manually adjust the vocals. This allows for precise control over lyrics and vocal delivery, ensuring that the final track meets the user’s creative vision.
